Beginnings are beautiful - an artifact of one of life’s true mysteries: that new phenomena can emerge and must emerge into the material and symbolic continuity of the world. At times, Leafbread seems like it came from nowhere, an abstract energy feeling its way through me to something real. But take away its metaphysical baggage, which I'm often reluctant to do, this project is the accumulation of passions and aligns my tastes with what I value most: Earth, humanity, homes, art, and stories.
So what’s up with the name "Leafbread”? It attempts to express the sublime through the simple, and was inspired by the poetry of Walt Whitman. “Leaf” and “bread” are two words that have an extensive history of use for what is common - which is the central quality of the content I wish present to on this platform. Leafbread aims to be a virtual village, acting as a space for dialogue and inspiration in the domain of conscious living.
This first issue wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of its contributors. My pitch to them was this: that aesthetics and sustainability are not mutually exclusive but actually dependent on one another; that how we live our lives, what kind of spaces shelter us, and how we express ourselves, can be one unified effort toward a regenerative future. I am endlessly grateful to the contributors for sharing in this vision.
